RICK MIKULSKI
Judge
Rick (Daytona Rick) Mikulski is a retired electrical engineer from Hewlett Packard. Even though his career choice was electronics and computers; he always had a love of the automobile. Born and raised in the Windy City of Chicago, Rick was introduced to the automotive world at an early age, from his father who was an automotive electrician. Car shows and street racing were in his blood. He loved customs/one off designs so he modified whatever he was driving at the time. GM cars, in particular the Corvette was his favorite ride. They were dependable, easy, and inexpensive to maintain, especially for someone who was paying their own way through college and post graduate school. Years ago, Rick started judging at local car events. His one-off frame off custom Vette (modeled off the famous Ferrari Daytona Spyder) was a regional Concours champion for several years.
A Pebble Beach Concours lifer (31 years and counting) was his rise to a more prominent and national level of judging. It started with a chance meeting with the Head of the PB Concours volunteer committee. Rick was invited to be the Head Class Host for the Ferrari class and in charge of lining up the cars for the Concours Tour. While doing this for ten years, Rick befriended some of the top Ferrari judges at Pebble. He learned the finer points of judging on a national level. Rick was brought into the big times, by being asked to judge at the Italian Concorso at Monterey.
For the past 15 years, Rick has judged Ferraris at: FCA Nationals, Cavallino, Italian Concorso, and a number of regional events, becoming a Sr FCA judge. He has branched off to judge Post War European Sports Cars, American Muscle, focusing on the Corvette. Over the years Rick has judged at many events including Concourse of America, Italian Concorso, Geneva National, Arizona Concours, Milwaukee Masterpiece, La Jolla Concours, Las Vegas Concours, Muscle Car Nationals, and several regional events. His ultimate dream is to judge at Amelia Island and Pebble Beach at least once before he gets too old. This will be Rick’s inaugural year judging at Cobble Beach.
