1948 Chrysler Town & Country Convertible
Flashback to one of our 2013 participants
The Chrysler Town & Country was one of the most exciting postwar cars produced. A favorite of celebrities, personalities, and the rich and famous, made it the first choice of the Hollywood crowd. The convertible was the most favoured of the Town & Country line with 8,368 produced and possibly fewer than 200 remaining today. The body style was the most memorable of all the Chryslers with its name coming from the combination of the steel front end representing ‘Town’ and the wood paneled rear portion resembling ‘Country.’ The body was framed with white ash, fitted with interlocking miters, and varnished to perfection. Mahogany veneer plywood filled the spaces within the framing. It features a Spitfire Straight Eight, 323.5 cu. inch engine developing 135 horsepower coupled to a unique fluid drive semi-automatic transmission. This beautiful Town & Country was an incredible all original wood and paint example prior to the painstaking nut and bolt restoration carried out while in the ownership of well known Town & Country collector, Jim Covert of Jupiter, Florida. It has been finished in its original colour scheme of Newport Blue with a Highlander blue interior.
