1956 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria Skyliner

1956 Ford 64B Fairlane Crown Victoria Skyliner, referred to as a glass top crown. Actually it is Plexiglas and has a zip up spandex curtain to deflect the sun’s rays. Glass tops were offered from 1954 to 1956. There were 13,344 Crestline Skyliner’s that were built in 1954, 1,999 of them Fairlane Crown Victoria’s in 1955, and only 603 built in 1956 because of lagging sales due to the heat on sunny days. The name Skyliner was originally used on all Ford transparent roof cars until 1957 were the name changed to now refer to the retractable hardtops. This car holds its original colour of Fiesta Red and Colonial White. With a standard 202 HP 292 cu. V8 engine with dual exhaust. The car has power windows, Fordomatic Transmission, power steering, power seat, power brakes, and much more listed on the window sticker. The third owner purchased it in Texas, drove it to Detroit, and stored at the Packard Assembly plant in 1976. Unfortunately, he died of a heart attack while showing it to his wife. She paid rent every month thereafter for 19 years. After 11 months of probing, paper work, phone calls, and legal proceedings, the current owner purchased the car and performed a frame off, a nut and bolt restoration in 1995-1996. Every piece of metal was submerge stripped and E-coated at the Dodge Viper frame assembly plant in Grand Bank Michigan. It won best of show with the “Crown Victoria Association” Club in 1997.
